Sex attacker Scott Johnson has been jailed for four years and four months after sexually assaulting a prostitute in a secluded area of Gloucester Park, after having agreed to pay her £60 for sex.
The 22-year-old pulled the screaming woman to the floor and put his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming before a passer-by chased him off.
Gloucester Crown Court heard Johnson of Finlay Road committed the offence while on bail for sexually assaulting another woman, who was so terrified by the attack she jumped out of a first floor window.
Prosecutor Julian Kesner said the sex worker’s screams near the children’s play area on August 19 of this year were heard by a man who chased him through the park and into a brook before he was arrested nearby in his wet clothes.
Mr Kesner said the first attack took place on New Year’s Eve when Johnson and two other men were invited to a home before the woman went to bed.
He said: “She made her excuses and went to bed. She was asleep and woke up to find the defendant in her bedroom sexually assaulting her.
“She shouts at him to get off and as he walked out of the room he threatened to stab her.
“She was too frightened to leave her bedroom and the house and jumped out of the first floor window and made her way to her boyfriend when the police were called.”
Mr Kesner said although the first attack was opportunistic, the second had “all the hallmarks of planning”.
He said the prostitute was looking for business in Barton Street when she was approached by drunk Johnson.
The court heard he agreed to pay her £60 to have sex, but refused the places she suggested they went and instead took her to the park.
When the woman asked for her money before anything happened, Johnson said ‘what money’ before she told him he was wasting her time and went to walk off.
“He grabbed her and pulled her down. It was a planned attack.
“He took her to what he thought was a quiet and secluded place near the children’s play area.
“She was shouting ‘get off me’.
“She managed to get back on her feet four to five times and each time he pulled her back down.
“She described using all her strength.
“The defendant had his hand over her mouth and used his body weight to pin her down.
“She felt as though she was suffocating and described running out of breath.”
Defending Joe Maloney said Johnson had expressed remorse and said all the attacks took place when he had been drinking too much and lost his inhibitions.
He added that it had taken great courage for him to plead guilty to two counts of sexual assault and that he was willing to undergo a programme for sexually offenders in prison.
Judge Hart jailing Johnson said his attacks were both “highly unpleasant and worrying offences” and made him the subject of a sexual offences prevention order.
